Monster EVO 3: the OK1 MINI kart

The Monster EVO 3 is the MINI kart of the OK1 line, designed for the youngest drivers. Following the introduction of the first CIK-FIA international homologation for MINI karts, the OK1 MINI chassis was improved thanks to various technical innovations, applied in order to satisfy the customers’ needs.

THE CHASSIS

The frame of the Monster EVO 3 is produced with 28 mm diameter steel tubes that, respecting IPK’s tradition, are manually welded by specialised and experienced technicians. The two longerons generate a double bend at the height of the fuel tank, a solution which can be commonly found in the bigger chassis of the following categories. Furthermore, the rear bearing housing has been significantly innovated to enable four levels of chassis’ rear height adjustments. This gives more flexibility and a greater possibility for adaptation to different track conditions. The new master cylinder support is in a casing too, therefore allowing a better alignment in relation to the pedals as well as an increased rigidity. Finally, both the length and the diameter of the fastening tubes of the front and side fairing supports have been reduced. This frees the chassis from the tension that was created when the fairing support was affixed.

BRAKE SYSTEM

The brake system’s components, which include the pump and the brake caliper, are machined from a solid piece of metal, coherently with IPK’s philosophy. The floating and self-ventilated brake disc is 149 mm in diameter and contains holes, which are useful for heat dissipation, as well as grooves, which are functional for preventing debris from interfering with the brake pads. Additionally, the new 4-piston caliper, which is the same one used for the front brakes of shifter karts, gives an important advantage, as it enables a highly modular braking. This is an essential feature for a go-kart that requires driveability, as it helps in avoiding locking up during braking, which has a negative effect on performance. To further adapt the braking to the driving styles of the different drivers, three distinct pad kits are at disposal: SOFT (green coloured), which is made of a softer material and designed for strong braking even with little pressure on the pedal; MEDIUM (red coloured), which is the standard version; HARD (blue coloured), thought for those drivers who tend to put more pressure on the pedal.

ACCESSORIES

The attention to details for all IPK accessories is always at the highest levels and this is demonstrated also by the new multi-adjustable pedals, which are machined from a solid piece of 7075 aluminium alloy. Their key characteristic regards the possibility of being adjustable in 4 different positions, with 5 fastening points for the brake rod and 2 for the accelerator cable. The traditional CCS system at the front end of the chassis, produced in IPK and exploited to adjust camber and caster, has been simplified to make the geometry changes faster. The C5 bearings represent an innovative element at the rear end: they were released before the ceramic version and are joined by three fastening grub screws on the axle in order to increase grip. Furthermore, the new silencer support is adjustable too and no longer integrated with the rear bearing housing. This technical solution, together with the new plate for the fastening of the battery support, has been designed to free the chassis from tension as much as possible.
Also the fuel tank and the steering wheel have been updated with new versions. The fuel tank has a capacity of 4,5 litres, thought for the Rotax classes, while the steering wheel is enriched by a silicone material to improve grip and is supplied as a standard version with an inclined hub.

NEW FAIRINGS WITH A NEW LOOK

The most plainly visible innovation in the OK1 Monster EVO 3 regards the aesthetics of the chassis: the new MK20 fairings by KG. Thanks to a revised shape compared to the past years, the driver’s protection as well as the aerodynamic air penetration have been considerably improved. There is also an additional advantage in relation to weight, as the overall kit, including the supports, is 500 grams lighter.
Lastly, the new livery of the OK1 MINI kart has modernised its look and expresses its competitive identity, with orange always remaining the distinguishing colour.
